How to Make Your Own Healthy Chocolate with Nature’s Joint Cacao

There’s something deeply satisfying about making your own chocolate. Whether you want to create a healthier version of your favourite treat, experiment with flavours, or just enjoy the process, homemade chocolate is easier than you might think.

Recently, a member of our Nature’s Joint Cacao community shared their simple yet delicious homemade chocolate recipe with us. It’s rich, smooth, and completely customisable with your favourite nuts, fruits, and spices.

Here’s how you can make your own pure, indulgent chocolate at home with just a few ingredients.


What You’ll Need:

✔ 45g coconut creamer
✔ 65g coconut oil (extra virgin)
✔ 60g Nature’s Joint ceremonial-grade cacao  – Get yours here
✔ 1 tsp vanilla extract
✔ 1 tbsp maple syrup (or sweetener of choice)
✔ Optional: Add-ins like sultanas, cranberries, hazelnuts (chopped or whole), Celtic sea salt, or spices


How to Make It:

1️⃣ Melt the granulated cacao using the double boiler method:

  • Fill a saucepan with a few inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer (not a boil).
  • Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan, ensuring it does not touch the water.
  • Add the granulated cacao and stir occasionally as it melts. Be patient—it takes a little longer than processed chocolate, but the result is worth it.

2️⃣ Once the cacao has melted completely, add the coconut oil and creamer, stirring continuously until fully combined and smooth.

3️⃣ Mix in the vanilla extract and maple syrup, adjusting the sweetness to your taste.

4️⃣ Pour the mixture into a mould or lined tray, then sprinkle with your choice of nuts, dried fruit, sea salt, or spices.

5️⃣ Place in the fridge for at least 1-2 hours or until fully set. If you want to eat it quicker, you can add to the freezer for 30 mins.

6️⃣ Break into pieces and enjoy!
